Fitting Tips for Big and Tall Mens Clothing

Proper fit is essential to looking good in big and tall mens clothing. To ensure the proper fit, you need to take the following measurements (or have someone else do it for you): neck, chest, sleeves, waist, and inseam.

You’ll need a soft tape measure to take these measurements, and a pen and paper to record them. Measures are taken in 1/2 inch increments; round up if necessary.

* Neck: Measure around the base of your neck. This is one measurement used for sizing dress shirts.
* Chest: Measure under your arms and straight across your shoulder blades. You should always measure over a shirt. This measurement is used for sizing suit jackets and blazers.
* Sleeves: With your elbow bent, measure from the base of your neck from the back, across the shoulder and elbow and down to your wrist. This is the other measurement used to size dress shirts.
* Waist: Measure around the area where you normally wear your pants. Always measure over a shirt.
* Inseam:

You’ll need a pair of pants that fit well in waist and length. They should also be of a similar style as the pants you will be buying. Lay the pants across a hard surface and move the left leg out of the way. Measure from the crotch to the hem of the pants. Then turn the pants over and measure the other side the same way.

Suit jackets:

Your sleeves need to be the right length; when you try on your suit jacket, the end of your sleeve should reach the base of your thumb. Test the fit to be sure you have free arm movement. A good test is to stretch your arms in front of you and overhead to be sure the suit doesn’t pull. Also, sit down in the suit to be sure you can do so comfortably.

Dress shirts: With bigger men, the challenge is ensuring your shirt tail is long enough so that when you sit down and bend over, the shirt does not pull out of your waist band. Big sizes are usually made with this challenge in mind, but when you buy shirts, always sit and bend over when trying them on to be sure you have a proper fit. Shirts should always be long enough to cover your stomach and your rear end completely.
For tall men, be sure to get “T” sized shirts which stands for “Tall”. These shirts are made longer and wider in consideration of your height. If you are over 6’3″, you also need to consider arm length – when you try on your shirt, be sure to stretch out your arms to the side and overhead to ensure the shirt doesn’t pull.

Pants:

With pants, always be sure that you can stick two fingers into your waistband to be sure they are comfortable. Again, sit and bend over while wearing your pants to ensure your pants don’t ride down.

Every man, whether average size or big and tall, needs to start with a wardrobe of clothing classics. Before you can figure out what you need, you need to take a look at what you have. Here are the steps to building a new wardrobe of big and tall mens clothing.

Step 1. Try on all the clothes in your closet.

Do they fit right? If you are trying on pants, sit down in them and see if they still feel comfortable. If you are trying on a jacket, button the jacket up. Is it too tight? Look at yourself from all angles. If any piece of clothing does not look good, feel good, or no longer fits your current lifestyle or age, then put that item into a spare box or bag.

CASH4GOLD ~ A BIG TIME RIP OFF!

I sent an 18 carat gold chain with a lobster clasp to Cash4Gold because the necklace was broke and had kinks in it. Rather than fix it, I decided to sell it to Cash4Gold.

I followed there instructions and mailed the chain in the pouch they supplied. About three weeks later I received a letter in the mail saying my chain was made of metal and had zero value.

I requested that they send back the chain which they did. However, when I got the chain back, it was stripped of the gold and it was reduce to a metal chain just like they said.

I was apalled and knew there was nothing I could do about it. They said nothing about stripping the gold from the chain on their website or television commercial.

The only relief I am getting from this situation is making others aware through this post.

Kim has a very interesting and successful weight loss story of how she went from a size 22 to a size 8.

She appeared in the August 2008 edition of Prevention magazine. She has interviewed with Essence magazine. She has taped a segment with CBN (The 700 club) and has made local televison appearances.

My own weight loss saga started when I was 12. I told myself that I was fat, even though I wasn’t. Now I realize I was creating my reality with my words.

After going on a ridiculously low calorie diet, I lost the weight I thought I needed to lose. A few weeks later, it was back—plus more. Little did I know that the same cycle would repeat itself over and over again for the next 20 odd years!

I became a diet queen: I tried Richard Simmons’ Deal-a-Meal (three times), Weight Watchers (twice), Atkins, Stop the Insanity, Fit for Life, Butter Busters, counting calories, counting carbohydrates, and counting fat grams. I even tried an Optifast-like program, similar to the one that Oprah tried. Unfortunately, I experienced the same result that she did; my pounds came back with lightening speed plus more.

Between the diets, my eating habits were awful. I loved my “goodies”: Candy bars, Doritos, and potato chips were favorites. I thought nothing of eating at fast food restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even though I knew about nutrition from my training as a nurse, I didn’t applyit. It seemed easier to just zip through the drive-thru.

When I changed careers from nursing to training/technical writing, the problem got worse…..
